Accra – Fati Hamidu, mother of Fauzeeya Jamal-Deen had no option but to kneel and prostrate in public when the name of her daughter was mentioned as a receipt of an award at a graduation ceremony.

She was adjudged the Best Graduating Student in Journalism, Best Graduating Student in Broadcast Journalism, and Best Female Journalism Student.

The mother could not hide joy for her daughter who started tertiary without a clear financing plan as the family was going through a tough time.

It was a crowning moment after a toil of almost six years to see the eldest of four female children attain a first degree.

Fauzeeya apparently had to drop out of tertiary on two occasions and in the process forgo a scholarship opportunity in the United States old after travelling to the US to study for a year.

She enrolled in 2018 at GIJ to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with Journalism Option and graduated in 2022.

“I was just focused and determined from day one because I knew that the only thing, I had was my education because my father was going through a tough time financially and health-wise. So, I just put in my best in doing everything,” she said during a recent interview with GHOne TV.
