Accra: A high level delegation made up of leadership of Ahlusunnah Wal Jama’a and the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana, have reached out to the families of the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment Science and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, deputy national security coordinator.

The delegation from the two sectarian Muslim organisations were headed by Sheikh Kamil Mohammed Kamil, the Deputy National Imam of Ahlusunnah Wal Jamaa, and Sheikh Abdul Wadud Harun Ciessey, the President of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana.

On Saturday, they paid a Ta’ziya (condolences visit) to the homes of the grieving families of the two Muslim government appointees who were among eight persons to perish in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, while on national assignment.

This visit comes barely a week after the burial of two at the military cemetery in Accra.

At the residence of the late Dr Murtala, Sheikh Abdul Wadud described death as a creature that is unknown until it afflicts one’s family.

He called on the family to have more patience, as Allah would replace what was lost with something better.

The delegation prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the souls of the deceased and asked for divine strength, patience, and comfort for the families during the difficult time.

The leadership also proceeded to sign books of condolences on behalf of the two sectarian entities.

The nation was put in a state of mourning following the demise of the eight who were en route to Obuasi for the launch of a community mining programme to help curb illegal mining.

After forensic analysis of the remains, the State held a Muslim burial for the two Muslims on August 10 under the auspices of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu.

The burial ceremony for the other six was held on August 15, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.Bodies of the victims were all interred at the military cemetery in Tse Addo, Accra.
