YEA begins recruitment for Arabic Teachers Module

Accra: The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has on Friday started receiving applications from qualified persons interested in working under the Arabic Teachers Module.
Applicants have a two-week window, which ends on September 19, to apply and be among some 3,000 selected Arabic teachers to be employed under the module.
Requirements for application include being a Ghanaian citizen with a valid Ghana Card, the ability to teach Arabic and a minimum senior high school qualification in Arabic studies.
The YEA, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Malik Basintale, on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Islamic Education Unit, headed by Abdul Karim Bapuni, the General Manager.
Under the agreement, the unit would ensure that recruited teachers teach the Arabic language and provide Islamic education in designated public schools while the YEA makes available the needed funds to support the initiative.
In his remarks, the CEO of YEA, Mr Basintale, observed that many Arabic instructors lacked a comprehensive remuneration system, which often leaves them at the mercy of philanthropists.
“There are people who have been doing this work for many years, and the only way they get recognised is through fisabillilah,” he said.
He noted that the precarious situation makes it prudent for the government to step in and assist Arabic instructors whose contribution goes a long way to benefit the country.
“This year, we will start with 3,000 Arabic instructors. Next year we will add on the number, and we are hoping that by the end of four years we should actively be able to support close to 20,000,” he said.
Mr Bapuni, in his remarks, lamented the low numbers of Arabic instructors on the payroll of the Islamic Education Unit.
He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing initiative of the government through the YEA to improve Arabic studies.
