7 forbidden sexual practices every Ghanaian Muslim couple must know
Some Muslim couples have continuously misconstrued the Quranic verse that described women as “gardens for men” to mean to do as they please regardless of sanctioned rules or regulations pertaining to sexual intimacy which is regarded in Islam as a form of worship.
Wild fantasies nurtured from conversations with friends and colleagues, and scenes of sexual escapades in movies or pornography have crept into our bedroom lives to the extent of blurring the lines of haram and halal.
So here are some problematic sexual acts of intimacy that Muslims must be aware of and should be avoided.
In this Article
1. Rear entry
Regarded as minor sodomy, penetrating the wife through the anus is prohibited and considered a grave sin that requires repentance.
Women who end up in marriage to men who frequently coerce and demand anal sex are encouraged to divorce such men.
By this act of penetration, women tend to suffer from dealing with a loose back hole and are susceptible to all kinds of anal and vaginal infections due to the transfer of filth from the rear to the front.
2. Sex during Mensuration
Abstaining from sex during this period can sometimes be frustrating for couples especially when women are known to have a high sex drive.
The only leeway fortunately is to perform all the permitted acts of intimacy except that which takes place below the navel of the woman.
3. Sex before mensural bath
It is very tempting for couples to have a go at it though the woman hasn’t yet taken her ghusl (ritual bath) at the end of the mensural flow.
The state of impurity does not end with the non-flowing of blood but with the taking of the ghusl.
Couples are therefore advised to hold their horses until the bath is finally taken before they have a go at each other.
It is also not good for a woman to keep the husband waiting by delaying the bath after completing her menses due to reasons such as performing chores or feeling lazy to bathe.
4. With more than one partner (group sex)
Getting in the act at the same time and place with different wives is prohibited. While the prohibition of seeing the nakedness of a fellow being is lifted for a married couple, it is still in place for co-wives of the same man.
Bedroom intimacy is to be a moment of privacy for the couple thus a husband and a wife and not to be shared with anyone.
Wives in polygamous marriages are therefore entitled to their intimate moments alone with their husbands away from the sight and sounds of their Kishiya (rival).
5. Sex during post-partum bleeding
Allow the bleeding after childbirth to end before anything sexual happens between the two couples. It is prohibited to have intercourse during this period.
Medically, sexual intimacy before the end of the period could prolong the bleeding period of the woman or lead to infection.
6. Romance/Sex in Public
It is among the signs of Qiyama (Judgement Day) that the people will mate in the streets just as donkeys mate, the Prophet was reported to have said.
This is a prohibition that generally ties in with the public order law of most countries. The deliberate act of showing affection romantically is prohibited in public spaces as it breaks the sanctity of modesty in Islam.
It is also prohibited for couples to publicly showcase or watch the nudity and sexual act of others, thus pornography.
7. Exposing Bedroom secrets
It is one of the most heinous crimes as far as sexual acts among married Muslim couples are concerned.
Couples who engage in this act have been described by the prophet as a male and female devil who meet in the middle of the road and satisfy their desire with the people gazing at them.
The situation gets muddier with the proliferation of technologies allowing couples to capture special moments, including private sexual moments.
Though no malice may be intended, scholars have warned against such acts as they most times end up in the wrong hands and in the public domain causing shame, pain, and regrets to couples and their families.
The Final Advice
To conclude, these are some prohibited sexual acts that married Muslim couples should not fancy or engage in.
The status quo however remains for the unmarried to continue to lower their gaze and fast a lot to prevent fornication and other sinful acts.
