ASWAJ inaugurates first Islamic SHS in Bono East region
Techiman: Ahlussunnah Wal Jama’a (ASWAJ) Ghana, a Muslim sectarian organisation, has inaugurated the first Islamic Senior High School in the Bono East region with the aim of providing holistic education to young Muslims in a conducive environment.
The ASWAJ Islamic Senior High School located at Sansama in the Techiman Municipal District in the Bono East Region of Ghana is a mixed boarding facility that started in the 2024/2025 academic year.
The school, mainly funded by contributions of the organisation’s members, was recently absorbed by the government and currently offers three courses that include home economics, general science and general arts.
Speaking at the inauguration and fundraising ceremony on August 1, 2026, Sheikh Kamil Mohammed Kamil, the first deputy national imam of ASWAJ, said the school project was a testament to what the Muslim organisation represented.
He said the entity remained a peaceful organisation that seeks to establish truth and the true teaching of the Holy Prophet Mohammed as the cardinal principle of their existence.
Sheikh Kamil urged the traditional rulers to dispel falsehoods and rumours and strive for truth and justice through independent investigations and verification when matters involving ASWAJ arise.
He called on the entire Muslim community to support the school initiative due to the immense impact it can make on the Zongo and the religious community as a whole.
Kenten Hene, Oheneba Nana Owusu Antwi Bosiako II, commended the Muslim organisation for the initiative.
He urged the leadership of the school to ensure that discipline remains central to the holistic education students received.
He advised the Techiman community to support the school with their widow’s mite, as the community had a collective role to play in ensuring that the school prospered for the betterment of all indigenes.
“It is not everything that should be done by the government,” the traditional ruler said.
Stephen Adu, Deputy Director, Techiman Municipal Education Directorate, pledges the commitment of his outfit to work towards making the school a centre of academic excellence, discipline and Islamic values.
“Let us all embrace this chapter with unity, sense and spirit of togetherness and purpose,” he said.
Dr Awal Mohammed, the Deputy Director of the Ghana Standards Authority chaired the occasion and donated building materials that included 350 bags of cement and a tonne of iron rods.
