Ghana’s former finance minister builds classrooms for boyhood Quran school

Tamale: Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Ghana’s first Muslim finance minister, has marked his 52nd birthday with the inauguration of a one-storey classroom block for the Markaziyya Islamic School at Zogbeli, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.
The project, personally funded by the Member of Parliament for Karaga, also included a 12-seater water closet facility, offices, a store, and a staff common room to support both teaching and learning in the school.
Alhaji Abdul Halim Tikumah, an aide who inaugurated the facility on behalf of the minister, said the school holds a place of personal significance for Dr Amin, as it was where he studied the Holy Quran in his early years.
In a Facebook post, the Karaga MP said, “I am happy that I can give back to my old school. This is a great blessing from Allah, and I praise His blessed name for this honour. May Allah forgive Sheikh Tahir Issah, the founder of the school, for sowing the seed that has produced many great scholars and promoted the deen. Aameen.”

It would be recalled that the former minister of finance in February this year handed over a 300-capacity bed dormitory to the Anbariyya Islamic Institute in Tamale.
In November 2025, he inaugurated a newly constructed 12-unit, one-storey classroom block at his alma mater, Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO), in the Sagnarigu Municipality.
He undertook the projects to ease congestion and create a more conducive learning environment for students.
