Ghanaian contestant places first at maiden African Hadith competition

Accra: Muhammad Kamal, a Ghanaian contestant at the maiden edition of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Oulema (Scholars) Noble Prophetic Hadith competition, has been declared a category winner. 

The second-year student at the Islamic Research Institute in Accra won the category of “memorising twenty hadith texts of rulings with an explanation of the jurisprudential benefits.”.

He was followed by Abu Bakr Saleh from the Republic of Burundi in second place, while the third place went to Aisha Musa Sisi from the Republic of Angola.

About 122 contestants representing the Foundation’s sections in 48 African countries participated in three categories of the competition that was held virtually.

The winners of the competition were announced at a closing ceremony that was held in the city of Fez in Morocco on October 20, 2024.

In the category of “memorising forty hadiths, their chain of transmission, and text without asking about their narrators and the meanings of their words,” the first place went to Tasneem Yassin Juma from Sudan, with second place going to Suleiman Khamis Mwamakuba from Kenya, and third place to Abdul Razzaq Musa Jelleh from the Republic of Djibouti.

In the category of “memorising thirty hadith texts with mentioning who the narration of the hadith ended with and understanding the meaning of its words,” first place went to Abdul Qawi Farouk Ali from Kenya, second place went to Muhammad Bakri Drami from Mali, and Bushra Naybali from Uganda came in third place.

Organisers presented encouragement awards to contestants Hafsa Diallo from Cape Verde and an 8-year-old Abdul Haq Sayed Dlamini from Eswatini.
