Algiers, Algeria: Abdul Samad Adam, a Ghanaian Quran memoriser, has emerged as the winner of the 2025 edition of the Algeria International Quran competition.

He was followed by Tawhidul Islam from Bangladesh in second place and Mahmoud Abu Gharrara from Libya in third.

The event, which took place under the patronage of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, concluded at the National Army Club in Beni Messous, the Eldjazaireldjadida newspaper reported on Monday.

Youcef Belmehdi, Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, presided over the closing ceremony, which was attended by the president’s advisor for religious affairs, Mohamed Hassouni.

Also present were some government officials, representatives of national institutions, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Speaking at the ceremony, Belmehdi described the competition as a “noble tradition established by the Algerian state to solidify the teachings of the Quran in the land of the Quran and its reciters.”

He reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, stating that this occasion is “an opportunity to reaffirm the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Algeria’s solidarity with the Palestinian cause.”

The competition, which drew more than 40 participants from across the Arab and Islamic world, saw 20 finalists competing in its concluding stage.

The ceremony also honoured members of the judging panel and Algerian Quran memorisers who had secured top rankings in international Quran competitions in 2024.
