IWD 2026: Radiza Foundation, ID-Ghana, trains 40 women in vocational skills, financial literacy

Accra: Two non-governmental organisations, Radiza Foundation and Initiative Development Ghana (ID-Ghana), have empowered 40 women with training sessions on financial literacy and baking.
The one-day programme, held in commemoration of International Women’s Day, was designed to provide participants with practical skills and financial knowledge to support entrepreneurship, income generation, and long-term economic independence.
In her welcome address, Rabiatu Yakubu, the founder and director of Radiza Foundation noted that acquiring practical skills and financial knowledge was key to achieving self-reliance and empowerment.
She encouraged participants to fully embrace the opportunity to learn and grow.
Abubakar Sidiq Amidu, the General Manager of ID-Ghana, delivered a keynote address on the theme “From Potential to Profit: Turning Skills into Sustainable Livelihoods”.
He emphasised the need to transform skills into viable business opportunities and stressed the importance of consistency, delivering customer value, and maintaining financial discipline in building sustainable enterprises.
Sackey Alexander, a financial expert from Initiative Development Ghana, facilitated an engaging session on financial literacy and responsible borrowing, equipping participants with practical knowledge on effective money management and informed financial decision-making.
Participants took part in an interactive baking session led by the CEO of SGL Cakes, Swebatu Gibrin, on how to prepare pastries and bake cakes while gaining insights into turning these skills into small business ventures.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as both practical and empowering, and noting that the experience had inspired them to explore new economic opportunities.
The programme was part of ongoing efforts by the Radiza Foundation to empower young people and communities, particularly women, through mentorship, skills development, and initiatives that promote both personal growth and economic advancement.
