Late Naser Toure listened more than he spoke – Parliament eulogises late MP

Accra: Bernard Ahiafor, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has described the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso East Constituency, Naser Toure Mahama, as a man of few words who was very experienced and very diligent with his work.
“He listened more than he spoke. But when he did speak, his colleagues listened,” he said at the Final Islamic prayer (Adua) held for the late MP who died on January 5 and was buried on January 6, 2026.
Mr Ahiafor said the late MP was a “diligent committee man” whose contribution to the work of parliament has been enormous at the committee level, where he served on the Committee on Mines and Energy, the Committee on Roads and Transport, the House Committee and the Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Motions.
The first deputy speaker of Parliament, who is also the MP for Akatsi South, observed that the contribution of the late MP often centred on value-for-money audits to ensure that government contracts served the best interest of the taxpayer.
“His contributions were marked by thorough preparations, insightful analysis and a focus on practical evidence-based solutions,” he said about the Muslim MP who was an active member of the Muslim Caucus of Parliament.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a former member of parliament who worked with the late MP, said Mr Toure epitomises calmness.
“So great was his equanimity, so great was his calmness in every moment. We want to thank him for the service he has provided our great party,” he said.
On behalf of the NDC, he expressed his condolences to the family and the constituency for their loss.
Also present at the event were the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman; the Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia; the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak; and the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, who led the prayer session.
