Accra: Lieutenant Sheikh Sharafudeen Kameny, an Imam of the Ghana Armed Forces has passed on at the 37 military hospital in Accra on Thursday.

His Janaza (funeral prayer) is scheduled to take place at the UN central Mosque.

Sheikh Sharafudeen is a sibling to US based Muslim cleric, Okasha Kameny and Sheikh Muhammad Awal Al Hafeez, a Quran scholar in Ghana.

Born and raised in Kumasi of the Ashanti region, the military Imam was known for his soothing Quran recitation in his uniform.

An act that drew admiration from many young Muslims who aspired to master the Quran and pursue other professions.

The death of Sheikh Sharafudeen comes barely a year after the death of Adnan Kameny, another brother of Sheikh Okasha who passed away in February 2024 while at the Qassim University in Saudi Arabia.
