Three Muslim MPs among first batch of deputy minister nominees

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has nominated three Members of Parliament (MPs) belonging to the Muslim caucus of parliament to become deputy ministers.

They include Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North, nominated as Deputy Minister of Roads & Highway; Yusif Sulemana, MP for Bole Bamboi, as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources; and Yussif Issaka Jajah, MP for Ayawaso North, nominated for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts.

They were among 13 persons nominated in the first round of nominations for deputy minister positions.

Other deputy minister nominees in the first batch include Thomas Nyarko Ampem for the Ministry of Finance, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi for the Ministry of the Interior, and Ernest Brogya Genfi for the Ministry of Defence.

Clement Abas Apaak was named for the Ministry of Education, while Richard Gyan-Mensah will serve at the Ministry of Energy & Green Transition.

Justice Srem-Sai selected for the Ministry of Justice & Attorney General, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah is set to serve at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy & Religious Affairs while Gizella Tettey-Agbotui will be at the Ministry of Works, Housing & Water Resources.

John Kofi Setor Dumelo has been appointed to the Ministry of Food & Agriculture, while Samson Ahi will serve at the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry. Additionally, Lydia Lamisi

Akanvariba has been nominated as Minister of State in charge of Public Sector Reforms.

So far, the president has appointed six Muslim MPs as ministers of various ministries.

They include Abdul Rashid Pelpou, the MP for Wa Central, as the Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment; Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, MP for Asawase, for the Ministry of Interior; and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central, as the minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.

The rest are Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale Central, and Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda.

The two are respectively leading the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
