Jeddah: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has until further notice suspended the mandatory requirement for all Umrah pilgrims to go for a Neisseria meningitis vaccination.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced the suspension in a circular dated February 6, 2025.

It noted that the implementation of the requirement, which came into effect on February 1, will no longer hold.

This means that persons with Umrah visas or any other type of visa can perform Umrah without the vaccine.

Prior to its suspension, Umrah pilgrims were required to take the polysaccharide or conjugate type of the quadrivalent Neisseria meningitis vaccine at least 10 days before travelling.

The polysaccharide is expected not to exceed more than three years, while the conjugate was not to exceed 5 years.
