Baba Sadiq replaces Baba Jamal as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, a politician and seasoned media and entertainment executive, as High Commissioner Designate for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He will replace Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the upcoming Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election.

The announcement was made on Sunday, March 1, 2026, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on his Facebook page.

Sharing an artwork featuring Sadiq’s photo, Ablakwa wrote: “Congratulations, Baba Sadiq, on your well-deserved appointment by President Mahama as High Commissioner designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I have no doubt you will hold aloft Ghana’s flag and make the youth of our continent proud.”

Baba Sadiq is a trained media and communications specialist, entrepreneur, and politician who has built a career spanning 20 years in Africa’s media and communications sustainability industries.

He has worked in various capacities as a media and communications executive and entrepreneur.

He was the founder of the Wildaland Festival, a three-day music and entertainment event set in the Shai Hills Forest Reserve, dedicated to wildlife conservation and experiential entertainment.

He also founded 3 Media Networks, home to the renowned 3Music Awards, and served as its CEO until 2022.

His work at 3Music has been instrumental in shaping Ghana’s urban music and entertainment landscape, particularly for Gen Z and millennials.

With a background that includes leadership roles at Boomplay Music and Muse Africa, Sadiq has been at the forefront of driving digital music and lifestyle platforms in Africa.

His expertise spans event management, television production, media strategy, and brand marketing.

He holds a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from the African University College of Communications and has currently deferred his postgraduate LLB studies.

Baba Sadiq contested the parliamentary seat for the Okaikoi Central Constituency on the ticket of the NDC in the 2024 elections but lost to the incumbent, Patrick Yaw Boamah.
