Build credibility through good character – Muslims advised
Accra- Sheikh Fazlu Rahman, a United Kingdom (UK)-based Muslim cleric has admonished Muslims to build credibility by developing good characters.
“What you do is more important than what you say. If you are a priest, an ambassador or a president people will not listen to you unless you are backed by sound credibility. And the most sustainable form of credibility is good character.
“Today we have eloquent and powerful speakers. In the government, we have politicians who would speak very well, but the easiest way to dismantle their political campaign is to smear their character,” he said.
He made the remarks at the fourth Biennial General Conference of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), an Islamic organisation.
Under the theme of “Aligning with Global Diversity”, the conference highlighted the importance of global diversity within the context of culture and religion.
About 700 Muslim delegates attended the conference with a majority from Nigeria and the rest coming from Ghana, Uganda, Sierra Leone and the UK.
Sheikh Rahman said the sincerity of purpose which formed part of good character transcended beyond the confines of worshipping Allah.
“Whether you are a doctor, a teacher, a lawyer or a scholar, your sincerity of purpose should be to serve humanity,” he said.
For his part, the President of NASFAT, Mr Kamil Yomi Bolarinwa said the lack of appreciation for diversity has led to distrust, insecurity, and oppression.
He, therefore, called on Muslims to make headway towards aligning with diversity by being exemplars of tolerance, love, justice and fairness.
NASFAT was formed on March 5, 1995, in Lagos, Nigeria with a mission to develop an enlightened Muslim society nurtured by a proper understanding of Islam.
It has over 100 branches worldwide and a tertiary institution named Fountain University, established in 2008 in Nigeria.
