Accra: The Coalition of Muslim Organisations, Ghana (COMOG), has set up a transitional committee to oversee processes leading to the reconstitution of Organisation’s leadership.

This comes after the dissolution of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), whose tenure expired in February 2024, and the Advisory Council, which had been managing the affairs of the organisation since February 2025.

The decision was reached at the end of a crucial consultative meeting held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in Accra.

The meeting was convened by the National Imam of the Shia Muslim Community in consultation with some stakeholder organisations.

“The meeting was necessitated by the prolonged leadership vacuum and institutional inactivity that had affected the smooth functioning of the organisation following the expiration of the FEC’s tenure and the limited assumption of duties by the Advisory Council.

“This dissolution is to pave the way for the establishment of a new leadership structure and restore normal governance within COMOG,” said COMOG in a released statement.

It indicated that the committee has a one-month tenure which begins from October 28, 2025, to November 23, 2025.

Parts of the committee’s mandate include organising a Stakeholders’ Conference scheduled for November 23, 2025, to deliberate on the way forward for COMOG.

It is also tasked to facilitate the handing-over process by inviting the outgoing president, general secretary, financial secretary, and programme coordinator to present their reports at the conference.

“They shall present vetted candidates for various executive positions to the Conference for consideration. The Conference shall serve as an Electoral College to elect or confirm qualified candidates.
“A list of distinguished individuals from across the country will be proposed at the Conference for consideration and approval to constitute the new Advisory Council of COMOG,” the statement read.

Members of the transitional committee include the leader of the Faidhatul Tijjaniya Ibrahimiya Council of Ghana as president, with the president of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Ghana (FOMWAG) serving as vice president.

Other members included representatives from the Conference of Regional Chief Imams of Ghana, Ahlusunna Wal Jama’a, the Shia Muslim Community and Jama’a Tabligh, Ghana.
