Hajj 2027: Ghana payment window closes weeks after fare announcement
Accra: The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the immediate closure of payments for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage to prevent oversubscription and streamline administrative arrangements.
The abrupt closure comes barely a month after PAOG officially opened registration and declared the 2027 Hajj fare at GH¢60,000 on August 12 and four days after announcing accredited Hajj agents for next year.
According to PAOG, the decision to halt collection is a proactive step aimed at aligning the total number of paid pilgrims strictly with Ghana’s approved quota allocated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
A statement issued by the office explained that managing pilgrim intake within defined operational limits is crucial to preventing administrative backlogs, resolving historical oversubscription issues, and guaranteeing a safe, orderly airlift of all confirmed participants.
“Managing pilgrim numbers within approved limits remains critical to delivering a safe, efficient, and successful Hajj. This decision was made in the best interest of prospective pilgrims and the nation to ensure that all paid pilgrims are successfully airlifted,” the statement said.
PAOG advised prospective pilgrims who were unable to fulfil or complete their full payments before the deadline to prepare for subsequent Hajj cycles, emphasising that no partial payments would be honoured or processed.
The Office further cautioned the public against fraudsters and unauthorised intermediaries claiming to possess allocations or offering late entry slots into this year’s pilgrimage.
POAG further urged the public to deal with only the 42 accredited Hajj agents officially announced on September 3, 2026.
PAOG reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency, protecting pilgrims from extortion, and building upon the operational successes recorded during previous Hajj exercise.
