Accra: The Shia Muslim Community in Ghana has expressed its solidarity and support for the Islamic Republic of Iran as the country faces aggression from Israel and the United States of America.

They are calling on well meaning Ghanaians to reject the ideology of Zionism, which they say was a threat to human civilisation.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Kamaludeen, the community organised a forum last Sunday on the theme “Zionism: a cancerous tumour and a threat to the civilisation of humanity”.

Ali Ghomshi, the Ambassador of Iran to Ghana, in his remarks, said his country remained determined to exercise its right to self-defence and fully protect its sovereignty, citizens, and national security by utilising all its defensive capabilities.

“Our goal is never to initiate war and bloodshed but to uphold the trampled rights of the great nation of Iran,” he said.

He called on citizens of countries to speak up against injustice and blatant aggression.

Dr Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo Marzouk Azindoo, representing the National Chief Imam, said it was worrying for people to endorse an ideology rooted in ethnic supremacy, territorial expansionism and genocidal extinctions.

“All these evils indeed constitute a cancerous tumour and a threat to civilisation,” he said.

He urged Muslims to remain optimistic, as there was hope for civility and peace to prevail.

“We also observe in sadness that these Zionists and their paymasters are also backed by the cowardice of the Arab monarchists in the Islamic fraternity,” he added.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a veteran Ghanaian journalist and General Secretary of the Ghana Socialists Movement, said it was revealing how Israeli citizens were being discriminated against and prevented from having access to shelters, an attestation of how Zionists value human lives less.

He said the existence of Zionism as an ideology remains a threat to peace and humanity in the world.

“All of us must wake up from our slumber and declare to the world that we stand with Iran, and no matter what happens, we stand with Iran,” he said.
