Grand Mosque Muadhin Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani dies
Makkah: Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamzah Al-Madani, one of the principal Muadhins of Masjid al-Haram, has died in Makkah.
Sheikh Ibrahim died at dawn on Monday, 10 Rabi‘ al-Thani 1448H, after years of service at the Grand Mosque, where his voice became familiar to millions through the Adhan and Takbeerat.
Saudi reports said he was particularly known for the Fajr Adhan and Takbeerat at the Grand Mosque.
His Janazah was scheduled for after the Asr prayer at Masjid al-Haram on Monday, followed by burial at Al-Mualla Cemetery.
Born in Madinah on 8 Dhul-Hijjah 1397H, Sheikh Ibrahim grew up in a religious household and studied Qur’anic studies. His maternal grandfather, a Hafiz of the Qur’an, had a significant influence on his upbringing.
He began calling the Adhan at a local mosque in Madinah at the age of 15 and later served as a Muadhin at Masjid al-Maddah before being appointed to Masjid al-Haram in Ramadan 1439H (2018).
A native of Madinah, Sheikh Ibrahim was influenced by the traditional Madinan style of the Adhan and also learnt the Makkan style through his association with the late Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former Muadhin of Masjid al-Haram.
He was among the 24 principal Muadhins of the Grand Mosque, six of whom rotate daily to deliver the Adhan for the five daily prayers and the first call before dawn. He also performed the duty of tabligh, relaying the Imam’s voice from the Mukabbariyyah to worshippers.
Beyond his public role, Sheikh Ibrahim was remembered for his devotion to worship. A fellow Muadhin of Masjid al-Haram said he would sometimes remain in the Mukabbariyyah for days, particularly during the final part of the night, dedicating himself to worship.
His death marks the end of a journey in the service of the Adhan that began in Madinah during his teenage years and continued at Islam’s holiest mosque.
