Kishk Bashir Yandu earns PhD in Islamic law
Accra: Sheikh Abdul Hamid Kishk Bashir Yandu, a Ghanaian Muslim scholar, has elevated his scholarly status with the attainment of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic law, ethics, and politics at the African Franco-Arab University in Niamey, Niger.
His research speciality was on the authentication of classical tafseer texts using hadith methodology.
On Saturday, the founder of Al-Islaah Centre, a policy think tank, successfully defended his thesis titled, “The Marywiyat of Muhammed bin Kaab Al-Qurzi in the Tafseer of Imam Muhammad bin Jarir Al-Tabri.”
Present at the dissertation defence ceremony were his relatives, including his father, Sheikh Bashir Yandu, a famous Sunni cleric in Ghana.
Dr. Kishk had previously attained a bachelor’s degree in Islamic law from the Islamic University in Niger in 2017 before pursuing a master’s degree in Islamic law in 2019 at the same university.
Until the end of last year, he was an imam at Masjid Wasatiyah in Philadelphia, USA.
