Muslimah Mentorship Network takes menstrual education to Abubakari Siddiq Islamic School

Accra: The Muslimah Mentorship Network (MMN), a not-for-profit organisation of Muslim women professionals, has engaged female students of Abubakari Siddiq Islamic School in Ashaley Botwe on women’s health, hygiene, and personal development.
The outreach, held over the weekend, formed part of the Network’s monthly mentorship activities aimed at empowering young people through guidance on life choices, education, and social well-being.
Ms Hasana Bambara, a member of the organisation, encouraged the students to understand and embrace their menstrual cycle without shame.
“As a girl, if you don’t menstruate, you are not normal,” she stated.
She stressed the importance of good menstrual hygiene, which, she said, includes regular bathing and frequent changing of sanitary pads.
Ms. Bambara also demonstrated how to correctly use and dispose of sanitary pads.
Touching on sexual harassment, she urged the girls to speak up when their sexual rights are violated.
“Young girls must be bold enough to report people who inappropriately touch or speak to them sexually either at home, school or any other place for that matter,” she said.
Speaking on education, Miss Nuratu Banse, also of the Network, encouraged the students to prioritise their academic pursuits.
She noted that the pursuit of knowledge was consistent with Islamic teachings and contributed significantly to individual growth and societal advancement.
The outreach included a session on sustaining learning through life’s challenges.
Leading the discussion, Madam Sirina Manan highlighted the importance of time management, peer collaboration, and self-directed learning.
She explained that adopting these strategies enhanced academic performance, encouraged well-rounded development, increased creativity, and strengthened decision-making skills.
Members of the MMN travel across the country to empower young people on issues such as sexual health, education, and self-confidence.
The Networks’ mission is to guide young Muslim girls toward becoming better individuals through higher education, successful careers, and the practice of exemplary Islamic values.
