Ho: Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, has called on Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, at his private residence in Ho, Volta region.

The courtesy call was to establish cordiality between the two leaders who were meeting for the first time.

Sheikh Sharubutu took the opportunity to visit the traditional ruler while attending a funeral in the region on Saturday.

The Imam offered heartfelt prayers for the life, health, and wisdom of the ruler of the Asogli State.

He also prayed for the prosperity of the country, its citizens and leadership.

Coincidentally, the two influential personalities shared the same birthday— a revelation that increased the warmth and cordiality between the two.

In the spirit of friendship, the two agreed to a grand joint birthday celebration in Accra next year, to be hosted by the Chief Imam himself.

Togbe Afede XIV commended the Chief Imam for his tireless efforts of promoting peace and understanding among Muslim groups and between the Muslim and Christian communities across Ghana.

He also expressed optimism that the presence of the Imam in the region would go a long way to help resolve a decade-long feud on Imamship in the region.

The meeting was graced by the presence of chiefs, queen mothers, elders, and our own Paramount Queen Mother, Mamaga Akua Dei—a beautiful reminder of our shared commitment to unity and harmony.

According to 2021 population and housing census, there are about 77,136 Muslims in the region, representing 1.3 per cent of the entire Muslim population and the least in all the regions.
