Accra: The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has gifted the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, a brand-new Nissan Patrol 4×4 vehicle.

On behalf of the president, a delegation led by Alhaji Said Sinare, Ambassador of Ghana to Saudi Arabia, presented the vehicle to the de facto Muslim leader on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at his Fadama residence in Accra.

The gift was in fulfilment of a long-standing promise which dates back to 2016.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Alhaji Baba Lamin Abu Sadat, the National Coordinator of the Zongo and Inner Cities Development Secretariat, explained that the last time the president gave the Chief Imam a vehicle was in 2017, in the aftermath of the 2016 general election, which the president lost.

“Since then the Chief Imam’s son (President Mahama) has made a promise that he will be changing his father’s vehicle, and indeed John Mahama always fulfils his promise,” he said.

The Chief Imam who prayed for the president said whoever is not grateful to people will not be grateful to Allah.

“This is not a strange thing. This is called the third of the three. This is not the first time the president has presented a vehicle,” the Chief Imam said.

Sheikh Sharubutu revealed that there was a covenant between him and the president which dates back to when the president’s father was alive.

He disclosed that prayers played a big part in the success of the National Democratic Congress winning the general election.

“The way the president has taken care of me – may Allah take care of him.

“May Allah increase him, elevate him and protect him and grant him victory,” the Chief Imam prayed.

In a joyous mood, the Chief Imam inspected the new vehicle and expressed immense gratitude.

It will be recalled that the Chief Imam in 2018 recieved a saloon car as a gift from the then vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party.
