Bawumia commissions new mosque for Sorbelle muslims
Sorbelle: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned a new mosque for the Muslims of Sorbelle in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region.
The mosque, funded by Vice President Dr. Bawumia was promised during the 2016 general election.
It adds to the list of charitable Muslim projects the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party has carried out over the past 8 years.
At a ceremony on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia expressed joy at the completion of the edifice, which he said was Allah’s house of worship for the people.
“I am happy today because many people think that it is human beings who build mosques, but it is only Allah who builds mosques,” he said.
“When I made the promise to build the mosque, I prayed to Allah to make it possible, and Allah said it was possible. So, I thank the Almighty Allah for making it possible to build this mosque for you.”
Dr. Bawumia urged Muslims to continuously relate in harmony and tolerance with other religions to sustain the peace enjoyed in the country.
“For us in this country, we are Christians and Muslims, and I don’t discriminate because it is the same God we are worshipping. I help everyone. Let us continue to live in harmony with everyone: our brothers and sisters who are Christians, for the continuous peace and harmony of this country.”
Kuoro Osman Deiwia Nankpa III, the Paramount Chief of the area, expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia and prayed to Allah to reward him abundantly.
“This beautiful mosque you have built for us here in the community will not only help us get closer to our maker, but it will also turn the place into a tourist attraction. May the Almighty Allah reward and bless you abundantly for this wonderful gesture,” added the Paramount Chief.
The chief of Sorbelle, Kuoro Natuo Gbemmie Gbentie also expressed gratitude to the Vice President for the honour done to the Muslims in constructing the mosque, which had brought them closer to Allah.
He said the community was grateful for his demonstration of leadership that was grounded in sacrifice, loyalty, inclusion, hard work, integrity, compassion, humility, and accessibility.
Dr. Bawumia and some members of the community observed one of the five daily Muslim prayers (Asr) in the mosque.
