Yasir Qadhi loses father on Monday

Plano, Texas: Dr Mazhar Kazi, the father of renowned Islamic scholar, Dr Yasir Qadhi, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Texas, US.

His funeral prayer was held at the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) Masjid in Plano, Texas, on November 25, 2025 (Tuesday), at 2 PM local time.

Dr Qadhi announced the passing of his father on social media, drawing condolences from across the Muslim community in North America and across the globe.

Reacting to the passing, Dr Omar Suleiman, an American Muslim scholar, wrote, “May Allah have mercy on him and grant him al firdaws. For all the years he gave to the community that so many don’t know about, and for all these last few years he struggled with his illness. May Allah fully expiate his sins and elevate his rank and magnify your reward.”

Dilly Hussain, editor at 5Pillars, expressed sympathy and prayed for paradise for Dr Kazi.

“May Allah (swt) forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannat al-Ferdous, and grant you all sabr. Ameen,” he wrote.

Dr Kazi helped build Houston’s early Islamic institutions.

He was also the founding member of the UH MSA, supported reverts and led Eid prayers in the city.
