Ghana Muslim Mission appeals to President Mahama for educational infrastructure support

Accra: The leadership of the Ghana Muslim Mission, a non-sectarian Muslim organisation, has paid a courtesy call on President John Mahama, appealing for infrastructure support for educational institutions established by the organisation.
The leadership noted that though some of the institutions have been absorbed by the government for many years, they are yet to have major improvement in infrastructure.
Speaking at the Jubilee House, Sheikh Amin Bonsu, the National Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission, noted that there were some infrastructure projects that started decades ago and have been abandoned.
“Your Excellency, you will be surprised to know that all our Muslim mission schools, especially the senior high schools. You will come there, and you will realise that almost 85 per cent of all the infrastructure was provided by the Ghana Muslim Mission,” he said.
He also highlighted the need for buses, as senior high schools established by the mission had not received buses after more than 10 years.
Sheikh Bonsu also used the occasion to officially invite the president to the organisation’s upcoming Ghana Muslim Mission conference on December 21, 2025.
Since its inception, the Ghana Muslim Mission has established about 167 schools across the country. It has a college of education and is working to establish a nursing training school.
President Mahama expressed appreciation to the Muslim organisation for its discipline and hard work, adding that, “I believe that you are good disciples of the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him.”
He described their visit as timely, as the government intends to distribute 200 school buses next year.
“We will make sure that we inform the ministry of education so that we can make up for what you have lost in the past by assigning school buses to your institutions,” he said.
He urged the Muslim communities to take advantage of government policies such as the Adwumawura, the National Apprenticeship Programme, and the million coders initiative that equip young persons with needed skills for the world of work.
