Ben Abdallah, former Hajj board chairperson sworn in as notary public
Accra: Alhaji Ben Abdallah Banda, lawyer, politician and former Hajj Board chairman, has been sworn in as a notary public, a significant milestone after two decades at the bar.
The former coordinator of the Zongo and Inner Cities Development Secretariat was among 133 lawyers sworn into office by the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, at a ceremony in Accra.
“Last week, I was sworn in as a notary public by the chief justice of the Republic. This is a significant milestone in my over two decades’ journey at the Bar.
“I thank the Almighty Allah for bringing me thus far and pray for his continuous guidance in the discharge of my service to society at large with integrity and professionalism,” the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Offinso South Constituency said in a Facebook post.
Also sworn into office was Seidu Nasigri, legal advisor of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu.
A notary public in Ghana is a senior lawyer appointed by the Chief Justice to authenticate documents, administer oaths, and witness signatures for domestic and international use in line with the Notaries Public Act, 1960 (Act 26).
Notaries public serve as official public officers of the courts, and for that matter, only a lawyer of high moral character and proven integrity with at least 10 years’ standing as a lawyer is appointed as a notary public.
In August last year, the MP for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, was also sworn in as a notary public.
