Burial for two Muslim victims in helicopter crash slated for Sunday

Accra: The government has announced the Janaza (funeral) prayers and burial of the late Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, a minister of Environment Science and Technology, as well as Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, who was the Deputy National Security Coordinator.
The prayer will be held on Sunday, August 10, at the forecourt of the state house at 2:00 pm, and burial will take place at the military cemetery in Accra at 2:30 pm.
Burial for the two had been delayed due to difficulty in identifying the bodies that were charred in the accident that occurred in Sikaman, located in the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti region.
All eight bodies had been flown to South Africa for advanced DNA identification after a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The victims were en route to Obuasi for the launch of a community mining programme aimed at tackling illegal mining.
Other victims were Minister for Defence Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Dr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The helicopter’s three crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, also lost their lives.
