Chief Imam schools government appointees on loyalty to leadership

Accra: Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, has asked government appointees to stay loyal to their leader and not undermine his authority.
Citing historical lessons from the biography of the Holy Prophet Mohammed, he said having a good leader is a sign of goodness from Allah which needs to be appreciated through obedience and loyalty to the leader.
“When he appoints you, never take a step when he has not instructed you to do so… As citizens and ministers under the president, we should be mindful of the status accorded to the president by God. We must be respectful. Let us not raise our voices in his presence,” he said.
Speaking on the theme, “Resetting our values to build the Ghana we want”, the Chief Imam, in a statement delivered by his spokesperson, Sheikh Armeyaw Shuaib, called on the nation to imbibe the values of respecting the elderly into the younger generation.
He warned that disrespecting elders will close doors an apology will not be able to open.
President John Mahama, in his remarks, said that gratitude is not shown through prayers alone but by righteous conduct.
“A grateful leader governs with justice and humility, a grateful citizen serves with honesty, and a grateful nation protects the vulnerable, upholds the rule of law and pursues the common good,” said President Mahama.
He observed that at a time when modernisation and other cultural influences were affecting Ghanaian values, the nation needed not only economic but also moral renewal to strengthen values such as integrity, justice and compassion.
“No constitution, however well written, can substitute for integrity; no policy by government can manufacture honesty,” he said.
