Accra: It was an unusual Eid ul-Adha prayer for Muslims of Kasoa Ngleshie Amanfro, who held their Eid prayer session with no audio equipment present.

It turned out the community’s planning committee for Eid prayer had a hard time securing the service of sound engineers.

The sound operators had expressed fear of losing their audio equipment as a result of a ban on drumming and noise making, a custom of the Ga ethnic group in the Greater Accra region.

This caused a lot of inconvenience to the large crowd of Muslim worshippers who had difficulty following prayer proceedings and listening to the Eid sermon, a crucial aspect of the Eid prayer.

The community located in the Ga South Municipal Assembly falls within the jurisdiction of Ga state, which had announced a ban on drumming and noise-making from May 12 to June 12, 2025.

This was part of the customary practices leading up to the annual Homowo festival.

The Ghanaian Minaret gathered that the Muslim community, which has a Public Address (PA) system, had earlier lent it to a community nearby for Eid prayers in anticipation of securing the service of sound engineers.

In a media interview Sarki Shuaib Salau III, the Zongo Chief of Ngleshie Amanfro, disclosed that the development got to the attention of the organising committee late.

“So it was decided to hold the prayer without speakers,’ he said.

Imam of Amanfro Central mosque, Sheikh Saleh Ali Mohammed, who led the Eid prayers, said he had no idea prayers would be held without a sound system.

He opposed the total ban on use of audio equipment during the period and rather encouraged the reduction of the volume of equipment during worship sessions.

“You know I have a problem with my throat, so I can’t even strain my voice,” he said.

In his sermon, Sheikh Saleh called on Muslims to exalt and honour their Lord on the Eid day with lots of praises.

While emulating the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim, he urged them to use healthy and befitting animals for sacrifice.

“We also prayed for the country and asked Allah for more peace and blessings to manifest,” he told the media.
