Accra: The management of the National Mosque of Ghana has paid a courtesy call on Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam of Ghana, to seek guidance and prayers.

The National chief Imam who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the mosque welcomed the delegation at his Fadama residence in Accra

The delegation was led by Chairman of the Executive Council, Naa Alhassan Andani, the Chief of Pisigu.

The visit took place at the end of a successful joint management and executive council meeting that brought together key stakeholders.

The meeting focused on matters of growth, sustainability, and the continued service of the mosque to the Muslim Ummah.

In a statement, the management said, “The visit reaffirmed the commitment to unity, collaboration, and the strengthening of spiritual and administrative mandates and the nation at large.”

The mosque’s management in April this year came under fire for allowing a wedding party to take place in the courtyard of the mosque.

In a statement, it acknowledged the concerns raised by the Muslim community regarding a viral video from the wedding party.

“We understand the emotions and questions it has evoked, and we sincerely assure you that your voices are heard and your concerns valued,” it said in the statement.

Since the incident took place, the mosque has adopted stringent measures which include modest dressing for visitors and strict regulations for hosting events at the site.

The 15,000-capacity facility situated on 4.2 acres of land at Kanda in Accra is the second-largest mosque in West Africa.

The project was funded by the Turkish Human Development Association International (HUDAI) Foundation with the support of the Turkish government.

The complex comprises a mosque, a library, an office complex, a residential apartment, a research complex, a senior high school complex, a clinic, an administration block, an auditorium, and a conference centre.

The mosque is designed based on the historical Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, in Istanbul, Turkey.
