Ghana officially begins 2026 Ramadan on Thursday as moon gets sighted

Accra: The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, has announced that the official start of the 2026 Ramadan fast will be on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The announcement was based on authenticated local sightings of the crescent moon across various locations in the country.
In a press briefing, the spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armeyaw Shuaib, mentioned the locations to include Kenyase in the Ashanti Region; Paga, Bolga and Bawku in the Upper East Region; Gambaga and Walewale in the North East Region; and Gwollu of the Upper West Region.
The national chief Imam prayed for the country and wished the entire Muslim community a blissful fast.
He also expressed his appreciation to the National Hilal Committee for its diligent work.
