Accra: Ghana’s five-member Hajj delegation has arrived in Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj symposium and Exhibition.

The task force is being headed by Alhaji Collins Dauda, Member of Parliament for the Asutifi South Constituency.

The event is scheduled for January 13 to January 16, 2025, in Jeddah.

The task force has a responsibility of engaging in negotiations that would lead to reduced Hajj fares for Ghanaian pilgrims.

Reducing Hajj fares was in fulfilment of a campaign promise made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by John Dramani Mahama, who eventually was sworn in as President of the country on January 7, 2025.

At an Islamic national thanksgiving ceremony on Friday at the National Mosque in Kanda, the president announced the establishment of a five-member committee to lead the Hajj preparation in the absence of a well-constituted Hajj board.

Hajj fares over the past two years have been pegged at GH¢75000, which many consider to be expensive compared to the rates of other countries.

The situation has caused many pilgrims to resort to unapproved routes to embark on the Hajj pilgrimage in precarious conditions that have led to the loss of lives.
