Accra: The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana, a state agency mandated to coordinate Hajj activities, will on Friday, February 6, 2026, begin mandatory medical examinations and screening to determine the health eligibility of 4,600 prospective pilgrims.

The month-long exercise, which ends on March 4, 2026, will be held on specific dates across eight selected centres in six regions.

This was in accordance with new guidelines governing the issuance of Hajj visas by the Saudi authorities.

According to a schedule released by Ghana’s pilgrims Office, the exercise will be held in the Upper East, North East, Upper West, Northern, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions, respectively.

The medical screening will involve comprehensive health assessments, including general physical examinations, screening for communicable and non-communicable diseases, a review of medical history, and an evaluation of fitness for long-distance travel and strenuous religious activities.

Prospective pilgrims will therefore be required to present records of medical, surgical, and drug history, a physical examination, and undergo a series of laboratory and diagnostic tests.

“The laboratory investigations will include a full blood count, a renal function test, a liver function test, blood sugar tests (FBS and HbA1c) and a urine pregnancy test (where indicated),” a statement indicated.

Accordingly, prospective pilgrims will undergo an electrocardiogram (ECG), as well as any other investigations deemed necessary by medical professionals, the Ghana Hajj medical team has noted.

According to the Pilgrims Affairs Office, the prospective pilgrims will pay a subsidised medical examination fee of GHS 650 and present a copy of their passport or Ghana Card.

“Pilgrims are also advised to arrive promptly and cooperate fully with medical personnel to ensure a smooth and efficient screening process.

The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana calls on all stakeholders, including accredited Hajj agents, religious leaders, and community heads, to support the exercise through effective information dissemination and strict compliance.
