National Hilal Conference 2027 scheduled for Wa in January
Accra: The National Hilal Conference 2027 will be held in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, from January 14 to 16.
Alhaji Usman Seidu, Executive Secretary of the Office of the National Chief Imam announced the dates and venue for the event at the recently concluded Conference of Regional Imams and Islamic Clerics.
The conference is spearheaded by the National Hilal Committee of Ghana, which coordinates local moon-sighting efforts to establish the official Islamic calendar, including the commencement and conclusion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Committee operates under the authority of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, and comprises representatives of various Muslim sects and other religious groups.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for representatives of the participating groups to engage on matters relating to moon-sighting and the Islamic calendar.
The platform over the years has also been used to announce the Nisab (threshold) for Zakat.
