Accra: Construction is underway for the completion of Dar Al Hedaya Mosque, a 1,500-capacity edifice located at East Legon, a prime area in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The project, situated on a 9,100-square-metre plot of land, is designed to include a school with an intake of 300 students, a library with learning spaces, administrative offices, event halls, and an underground car park that can accommodate more than 200 cars.

A distinguishing feature of the mosque is the presence of 33 domes of different diameters and four high-rising minarets inspired by the Fatimid style, reaching 60 metres in height.

The project began last year by the Arab Contractors Ghana Limited, a civil engineering firm that has its headquarters located in Cairo, Egypt.

In October this year, a delegation that included two board members of the Arab Contractors Company visited the country and inspected the ongoing project.

“The company delegation praised the quality of the work and the level of performance, stressing that the project reflects the excellence and discipline of the work teams, which has earned the project praise from the client and residents of the surrounding areas for its speed of implementation and high quality at all its phases,” the company reported in a published news article.

Some key infrastructure projects undertaken by the contractors included the renovation and expansion works of Accra and Kumasi stadia, the construction of the “Winneba” road linking Accra to Takoradi, and the designing and building of two ferries to improve the river transport on the Volta Lake.
