Office of Chief Imam, Ghana Muslim Mission represent Muslims at upcoming presidential meeting on Galamsey

Accra: Representatives from the Office of the National Chief Imam and the Ghana Muslim Mission will be engaging the president, John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of Muslims at a meeting on illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
The meeting will be held at the seat of government, Jubilee House, on Friday, October 3, 2025.
It seeks to provide a platform for stakeholders to have constructive dialogue on the menace that was posing a threat to the environment, food and national security.
Representatives from 59 non-governmental organisations are to attend the event with the view of harnessing collective expertise, perspectives and solutions to address the challenge.
Other religious bodies invited to the event include the Catholic Bishops Conference Ghana, the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council.
The president has come under immense pressure in recent times over his approach to combating illegal mining in Ghana.
The pressure emanates from remarks by the president during a media encounter where he kicked against the immediate declaration of a state of emergency to tackle galamsey.
He indicated that other approaches which were non-exhaustive, had been deployed to salvage the situation.
There have been concerns over impending water crisis due to the poor turbidity of some water bodies that serve as sources of drinking water.
