Accra : Peace Dawah Media, a not-for-profit organisation, has raised an amount of GH₵524,013.98 as of June 2024 for the construction of a one-story, 8-unit classroom block as part of the Islamic school for the blind project.

The amount was raised after eight rounds of fund-raising projects that were initiated within a six-month interval across various platforms.

The project also entailed the construction of dormitories, bungalows, and an administration block.

This was made known at the 3rd Annual Musabaqa for Blind Muslims, which took place over the weekend in Accra at the National Mosque in Kanda.

About nine contestants from across the country participated in the competition, with Musah Alhassan from Kumasi in the Ashanti region emerging as the winner.

Sheikh Hajj Umar Ibrahim, National Imam of Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah, urged the Muslim community to seek out innovative ways of raising funds beyond appealing to the benevolence of individuals in society.

He suggested the establishment of endowment funds that could help mobilise funds for the construction and management of Islamic projects in Ghana.

Flight Lieutenant Moucharoudine-Siddique Maiga, Imam of the Ghana Air Force, said the act of goodness being undertaken by the foundation was worth emulating.

He urged Muslims to be sincere with their good deeds and shy away from envying one another.

Ayisha Ibrahim, District Education Director in the Upper West Region, who is also visually impaired, urged individuals and organisations seeking to support persons with disabilities to focus on helping them pursue their education, adding that “if you have education, you have everything.”

She explained that while giving alms was good, education helps build the capacity of people with disabilities and makes them financially independent.

It was in that regard that she called on the Muslim communities to support the Islamic school for the blind project.

Work commenced for the construction of the school in August 2021 at Oyibi in Accra.
