Bawumia commissions Walewale central mosque with Jummah prayers
Walewale : Muslims in the North East region joined Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to hold Jummah prayers at the rebuilt Walewale Central Mosque.
The project is fitted with modern amenities, an ablution area, as well as offices for the Imam.
With a huge Muslim population in and around Walewale, the construction of the mosque, which started a few years ago, was meant to provide enough space for the town’s growing population.
Vice President Bawumia has over the years extended support to the Zongo and Muslim community in various forms, including personally funding the construction and renovation of mosques and schools across the country.
Dr. Bawumia, together with Imams and traditional rulers, cut the sod for the commissioning before taking the historic steps to inspect the mosque ahead of the Friday congregational prayers.
It was a grand ceremony hosted at Walewale, the capital of the North East Region, where the newly completed mosque is expected to symbolise religious and communal growth.
Within minutes, the mosque was filled to capacity as both men and women occupied their respective sections of the mosque.
Dr. Bawumia gave a short address, calling for religious tolerance and unity among the populace and highlighting how infrastructure promotes social development.
He thanked contributors to the mosque project, emphasising how it would not only serve as a place of prayer but a facilitator for community development, education, and social welfare.
He reassured Ghanaians of governments committed to supporting religious and educational projects that transform citizens’ lives irrespective of their religious backgrounds.
He urged members of the community to take care of the mosque by ensuring good maintenance culture.
The project was financed by the vice president with the support of local and international philanthropists.
