President Mahama requests a comprehensive annual Hajj report

Accra: President John Mahama has directed that a comprehensive Hajj report be provided at the end of every Hajj season.
He demanded that the report which will be submitted to the Chief of Staff must cover the finances, logistics, health and safety outcomes, and the lessons learnt from the pilgrimage.
The move was to deepen accountability and create institutional memory for Hajj management.
The president made the request when he inaugurated a seven-member Ghana Hajj Board, which is to be chaired by Alhaji Abdul Rauf Tanko, a former Hajj Board chairman.
Other members of the board include Shaibu Mahama, Member of Parliament (MP) for Daboya/Mankarigu, serving as administrator and medical practitioner, and Dr Abdul Samed as a member.
The rest are Alimatu Issahak, Alhaji Amadu Tanko, Alhaji Masaud Abubakar, and Chief Ahmed Ibrahiim.

He urged the board to digitise their operations to prevent the exploitation and profit-making of pilgrims.
He also called for collaboration and proper coordination among key stakeholder institutions to ensure that the country records a successful pilgrimage.
President Mahama advised that every official, from the board members to volunteers, must act with courtesy, discipline, fairness, and honesty.
“Our pilgrims should feel respected at every point, from registration to their safe return home.
“Keep open and constant engagement with the Office of the National Chief Imam, with your regional imams, with our travel partners and agents, and especially with the Saudi authorities,” he said.
