Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Sheikh Abdul Nasiru-Deen for appointment as an ambassador of Ghana to Turkey.

The Turkish-trained pharmacist, respected Muslim cleric, and humanitarian is a fluent Turkish speaker and a graduate of Ankara University.

Sheikh Nasiru-Deen has built strong ties with Turkey since the 1990s across government, education, business, and faith-based institutions.

He played a leading role in securing Turkish support for the Ghana National Mosque Complex and currently chairs its management.

Through his Paragon Foundation and schools, he has provided boreholes, food packages, and educational support to thousands in deprived communities.

Sheikh Nasiru-Deen has also facilitated scholarships for Ghanaian students and training opportunities for artisans and teachers in Turkey. In 2016, he served as the official interpreter during President Erdoğan’s state visit to Ghana.

His appointment has drawn widespread praise, with many describing it as a strategic step toward strengthening Ghana-Turkey relations through diplomacy, education, and humanitarian partnerships.

He was among some 15 individuals nominated for appointment as ambassadors, high commissioners, and consul generals designate to represent Ghana in various countries across the globe.

This was in consultations with the Council of State, as stated in a letter from the Office of the President dated June 10, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama.
