Accra: The Hudai Foundation, a Turkish humanitarian organisation operating in Ghana, has presented assorted food items to the Ministry of the Interior for onwards distribution to prison inmates.

The humanitarian gesture was to support Muslim inmates during the holy month of Ramadan.

Receiving the items, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, expressed his gratitude to the Foundation and the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana.

He noted that the donation would go a long way to improve the quality of life for inmates.

“We appreciate this kind gesture from the Hudai Foundation and the Turkish Government. As a ministry, we pledge to prioritise the health and well-being of inmates, regardless of their circumstances.

He called on other organisations to support the Ghana Prisons Service in its efforts to improve inmate welfare.

“We welcome any support that can help improve the conditions in our prisons,” the minister said.

The minister also assured the Turkish ambassador of the ministry’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Turkey.

Mr Remzi Şeker, Hudai Country Coordinator, explained that the donation is part of the Foundation’s charity and goodwill initiatives.

“Ramadan is a month of blessings and sacrifices, and we believe it is our duty to support those in need. We will continue to do our best to provide support to the needy and vulnerable, including prison inmates,” he stated.

The Hudai Foundation provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations, including orphans, widows, and prisoners.

Over the years, the Foundation has been involved in various philanthropic activities in Ghana, including providing food, clothing, and medical supplies to those in need.
