Accra: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to accommodate more Ghanaian pilgrims at this year’s hajj by increasing Ghana’s quota by 20 percent, from 4000 pilgrims in the previous year to 5,000.

The decision was formalised recently with the signing of an agreement between the Ghana Hajj Taskforce and the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Hajj and Umrah during the 2025 Hajj Exhibition and Symposium.

The Chairperson of the Ghana Hajj Taskforce, Alhaji Collins Dauda, announced the 1000 quota increase during a press briefing on the new Hajj fare for the 2025 Hajj season.

Alhaji Dauda, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Asutifi South constituency, called on well-meaning Ghanaians to support the task force to organise smooth operations.

“We want the support of every Muslim who wants to help in the area of making the quest of Allah comfortable. And I know every Muslim wants to play that role,” he said.

He said the task force would not countenance anybody who sees organising hajj as a venture for profiteering.

“The idea of making money out of Hajj must be dismissed. If you want to make money out of Hajj, think about it in the Hereafter,” he said.

The task force, based on the advice of the President, John Dramani Mahama, pegged the hajj fare for 2025 at GH¢62000, representing a 17.3 percent decrease from the 2024 fare of GH¢75,000.
