Hajj 2025: Accra airlifting commences as first flight departs

Accra: The Ghana Hajj Taskforce has kickstarted the second phase of airlifting of Ghanaian pilgrims with the departure of the first flight from the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
The flight, which was airborne at about 12:30 pm, is the eighth flight to airlift Hajj pilgrims from Ghana to Madinah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The second phase is scheduled to end on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The first batch of Hajj pilgrims left Tamale airport on the afternoon of Saturday, May 10, 2025, and successfully touched down in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, at around 8 pm GMT, thus 11 pm local time.
The 425 pilgrims were welcomed by a delegation headed by the Consul-General of Ghana to Saudi Arabia, Dr Adam Abdul Rahman, at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport, Madinah.
The first phase of the airlifting exercise ended in Tamale for pilgrims from the northern zone of the country on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Out of an estimated 6200 pilgrims, more than 3000 Ghanaian pilgrims have received airlifts so far.
The remaining pilgrims are expected to be airlifted in the coming days as preparations continue for the pilgrimage, which is a significant event for many Ghanaians.
Authorities are optimistic that the subsequent phases of the airlift will proceed smoothly, ensuring that all who wish to undertake this spiritual journey can do so without delay.
Most of the pilgrims in Saudi Arabia have moved from Madinah to Makkah to start performing the Hajj rites.
