President Mahama calls for post-Ramadan reconciliation among Muslims

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged Muslims to resolve quarrels and make peace as they celebrate Eid ul-Fitr.
After going through a month-long period of Ramadan fasting, he said it was important for Muslims to cleanse their hearts of bitterness and embrace the principles of patience, love and humility.
“If you have a quarrel with somebody, after Sallah (Eid prayers), go to the person’s house and make peace with them,” he said during his first Eid ul Fitr ceremony participation since assuming office in his second tenure as president of the Republic of Ghana.
The president called on the people of Bawku to give peace a chance and end the chieftaincy conflict that has raged on for generations.
He said the citizens must not take for granted the peaceful coexistence and the religious harmony that exist in the country.
“Ghana’s development will not be determined by our divisions but by our unity…let us reject divisions, let us reject hatred and let us reject intolerance,” he said.
He observed that the Muslim community has contributed immensely to the economic and socio-cultural development of the country.
“We must, however, do more to ensure that the development in our Muslim communities is balanced and catches up with the rest of the country.”
He also cautioned against indiscipline and recklessness during Eid celebrations.
Alhaji Awaisu Bio, Executive Secretary of the Office of the National Chief Imam, expressed gratitude to the president for his commitment to the Muslim community.
He pledged the support of Muslim leaders to help the president achieve his vision of resetting the country.
The event was climaxed with a prayer said by the national chief imam for the country.
